The API I wished existed.
I was building a food application and needed a recipe API. Simple enough, right? But every option I found was either wildly inconsistent, overpriced for what you got, or had nutrition data that was clearly guessed rather than calculated.
So I built Foodashi — the API I needed but couldn't find. No funding, no investors, no team. Just a developer frustrated enough to build it right. One where nutrition is calculated from real official ingredient databases from around the world — USDA, EU, Japan, Canada, UK, France, Africa, and more, not estimated by AI. Where every recipe has a real photo. Where the data is actually consistent across endpoints. And where the pricing doesn't punish you for building something ambitious.
What makes Foodashi different
Most recipe APIs treat nutrition as an afterthought — a rough estimate slapped onto a recipe. Foodashi calculates nutrition per ingredient, per gram, using official USDA and European food composition databases. When you see 24g of protein, it's because we added up the actual protein content of every ingredient at the exact quantities in the recipe.
Beyond nutrition, Foodashi includes AI-powered features that most food APIs simply don't offer: meal plan generation, food photo recognition, recipe analysis from text or URLs, and an AI sommelier for beverage pairings. All accessible through a clean REST API with predictable JSON responses.
Real Data, Not Estimates
Nutrition calculated from official ingredient databases from around the world — USDA, EU, Japan, Canada, UK, France, Africa, and more. Every number is traceable to its source.
